When two young aspiring musicians, fed up with the mainstream, sought out to form a pivotal rock band…they were not successful. So they tried once more and yet again no luck for Justin and Joe. With the proverbial phrase “Three’s a Charm” as their mission statement, they thought they would give it one more shot. On a quest to find the most qualified drummer and singer, the two thanklessly searched through want ads, internet sites, and held endless auditions. With no resolution Justin (Guitars) and Joe (Bass) almost resorted to taking up drumming and singing amongst the two of them to make matters simple.
Then came a glimmer of hope. A young lad from Bobcaygeon, named Joel Stewart responded to their ad and their prayers. After a brief audition, he immediately proved to be the best singer for this new project. The band was still missing the backbone to any kick ass rock band, a solid, hard-hitting drummer. Within a week another ad/prayer was answered by Steve Rice. Without more ado an audition was lined up for Steve to show his chops. He gelled instantly with the other four musicians. What was intended to be an audition turned out to be the first jam as a band.
Within just a few rehearsals the four managed to write numerous tunes that made various studio patrons walk in to have a better listen. The band wowed audiences with their refreshing sound despite not having a name for the first few shows. Progress was being made faster than they could think of one. Finally the band collectively decided on the name Monday’s Fiction. The name was inspired by exaggerated tales of the weekend, where recollection of true events are hazy due to inebriation. Stories shared amongst peers, on the Monday, are so altered they might as well be fiction.
The band recently hooked up with producer, Ruben Huizenga (Edwin, David Usher) and completed their debut EP More Than Yesterday, which features the songs, More Than Yesterday, So Strange and The Rain. The band is currently rehearsing at The Rehearsal Factory studios located at Front & Sherbourne. Monday’s Fiction is constantly playing the Toronto circuit trying to make themselves a household name, before unleashing themselves on the rest of Canada and perhaps the world. They live by the philosophy that a band could write catchy melodies, break boundaries in music, and appeal to the masses, without being your typical bubble gum pop artists.
