Gettysburg started out as an acoustic folk duo. Denholm Whale and Dylan Todhunter wrote, recorded and performed including playing the Shelter Valley Folk Festival in 2008 after winning a songwriting competition. After the festival, they felt they were ready to upgrade their sound and develop into a full band. Bassist, Matt Watton and drummer, Alex Nathan were added that summer, and Gettysburg played their first show with a full line-up at The Silver Dollar in early September 2008.

Since then, the band has gigged tirelessly around Toronto playing institutions such as The Horseshoe, Velvet Underground, The Opera House, Lee's Palace and The Rivoli as well as neighbourhood bars and parties. They recorded their first demo in 2008, and now in summer 2009 are about to release a new six-track which will demonstrate Gettysburg's new sound - bigger, edgier, and more fun for all the family, harnessing their folk, blues and rock influences.
