Band Pic of Cold Dead Hands

Cold Dead Hands could be said to have started with Ian Strung, the band's singer/guitarist. Ian has been playing in power-trios performing his original music since he was 15. Attending the Trebas Institute in 2004 (Toronto's greatest sound recording school), Ian formed Cold Dead Hands with current bassist Robin Deyong. The band recorded "Wrong" (downloadable here) in 2005 with then-drummer Elena Silina. Half-way through 2006, Elena parted ways with the band, but the CDH tradition continued as Rob and Ian recruited Rob Kisler from the band Fine Motor Control to pound the skins. Without skipping a beat, Cold Dead Hands had suddenly acquired a far more impactful sound. As well, Fine Motor Control acquired Ian as a keyboardist. That's another story, but one definitely worth paying attention to: http://www.myspace.com/finemotorcontrol .

Soon, the band attained a reputation for insanely intense live performances. Cold Dead Hands is, in essence, a cross between geeky power-pop and super-loud hard-rock power trio virtuosity. Their shows are exhibitions of incredibly tight playing and an over-the-top improvisational edge. The band does what they want on stage; they have the chops to pull it off, and the songs to make it worth listening to. And they do it all with a stark minimalism - nobody can accuse Cold Dead Hands of burying their talents with too many players or overdubs. They really WANT you to hear each and every note.

The band's latest and greatest release, the Novelization e.p., is now available to purchase at the band's shows and will soon be in indie record stores in Toronto (but not just yet). So if we've grabbed your attention, stay tuned to this site for our next gig announcement. The tracks available here constitute half the record time-wise - the other half (the songs "Read Between The Lines" and the title track) showcase the band's diversity and songwriting strength, and over-the-top-loud riffage, just as effectively. You'll want to listen to it again and again, and shout along at the shows. COME PARTY WITH COLD DEAD HANDS!
