Toronto Band 20 Amp Soundchild

20 Amp Soundchild grew up in Pickering, Ontario; originally forming in 2008 and completing their first album, the self-titled, ’20 Amp Soundchild’ in the summer of 2009.

20amp’s debut EP was recorded and produced at the Pocket Studios in Toronto by Mike Turner of Crash Karma (formerly of Our Lady Peace). In Turner’s words, "I like that they have a sound of their own," he says. "Nick's vocals and Justin's guitar atop David and Ryan's solid rhythm section add up to more than the sum of their individual parts. Unique chord voicings and melody, to me at least, are the signature of 20 Amp Soundchild. I saw them at the Horseshoe and just knew we could do something good. I'm proud of the EP and even though it was done fast I think the results speak for themselves. I can't wait for more music from these guys, they're just finding their voice as a group and I only see them going from strength to strength."

The songs have made an aggressive push into the indie rock sound while maintaining progressive rock roots and pushing for real pop sensibilities. The highly anticipated EP entitled, "The Others" was released April 19, 2011 and garnered a coveted spot on MTV Drops. The album has sold over 750 units to date.

In the past nine months 20 Amp Soundchild have been featured on Alan Cross' Explore Music website and MTV.ca, they have showcased during Canadian Music Fest, opened for Hollerado, were awarded the 102.1 The Edge ‘Indie Online Band of the Month’ for June 2011, showcased at NXNE, released their very first music video (for “Naked Silhouettes”), were selected for Indie Week in October and just received a MuchFACT video grant.

The boys recently travelled to Wiarton, ON to compete for a coveted spot at the Wiarton Willie Festival in February 2012. They won this battle of the bands and were awarded with the opening act for a major headliner at the Groundhog Day festivities. In years past, headliners have been April Wine and Big Wreck!

The title of ‘Indie Online Band of the Month’ guaranteed 20 Amp Soundchild a bit of airplay on 102.1 The Edge. As Alan Cross stated, 20 Amp Soundchild are a “Straight ahead radio-friendly rock band from Pickering, Ontario, who have opened for everyone from Kim Mitchell to My Darkest Days.”

The lads have played all over Toronto, in many of the big name venues. 20amp intend on touring in the near future, playing shows across southern Ontario and into Montreal.

What sets 20 Amp Soundchild apart from their peers is their ability to write and perform radio friendly rock/pop tunes while still demonstrating a serious knowledge and fervour for genuine soulful musicianship.

20 Amp Soundchild count the following bands as their musical influences: The Police, Radiohead, Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Broken Social Scene, Kings of Leon, The Arkells, Jack White, Silversun Pickups and Metric, to name a few…
