Toronto Band Styrofoam Ones By: Sheena Lyonnais

March 08, 2010

Toronto’s Styrofoam Ones combine furious drums with catchy synth-ridden hooks destined for those scenes in the Hills when their parties look way more expensive yet way more lame than your own yet for some reason they have a killer wicked soundtrack.  Vocalist/bassist Josh McGuirk and keyboardist/vocalist Alexander The weigh in on their deliciously big beats and what we can expect from their CMW performance.

How are you doing and where are you right now?

Alexander The – Doin' great, feelin' good & playin' with watches, cars, planets & Stop Motion.

Josh McGuirk – Doing Very Well, thank you.   In Toronto, it was a beautiful day in the city with sunshine, good friends and good coffee.

There are a lot of bands playing CMW, why should I watch yours?

AT – ‘Cause our legs are made for dancing and that is what we'll do.

JM – Our songs are solid and our show is pretty hot too.

What are you doing to prepare for CMW?

AT - Eating four raw eggs and sprinting down Augusta Ave in Kensington Market before each rehearsal.

JM – Working on a couple of surprises for the show and digging for gold

What are you hoping to get out of the festival?

AT - Just having an amazing show and party with other bands we already love.  "Parallels what up!"

JM – Sharing what we do with some people who haven’t seen us before.  Also stoked to catch some of our favourite Canadian artists, so much goodness.

Tell me a tour story that is crazy but true.

AT – U-Haulin' around Nuit Blanche in Toronto.  Was about to play at the infamous Rolly's Garage opening party by backing up our truck into their space.  We were on our fourth location right after amazing other successful performances at the U-Haul parking lot on Queen, and the Gate at Trinity Bellwoods.  The place was rammed and we chatted with our great friend/owner Robin Lacambra about the go ahead.  Three minutes before we were to pull in, there was a raid of like 20 cops - some on bikes, cars and by foot.  We had to bolt so we headed to the OCAD and played a wicked performance out on the street at 3 a.m.

JM – C’est vrai

What are you/your band working on at the moment?

AT - Makin' more and more music.

JM – You’ll hear some new stuff soon.  We’re digging where its going.

Any last parting words for us music-hungry Toronto folk?

AT - So much talent in this city.  Don't sleep.  Cuz we don't.

JM – Take a chance today …or this week at least
