CMW Preview: Pick A Piper Print E-mail
Toronto Band Pick A Piper

The Waterloo collective known as Pick A Piper makes a quick stop in Toronto for CMW before heading off on an East Coast tour.  To tell us more about the psychedelic four piece and why you should see their CMW showcase is drummer Brad Weber (also of Caribou).

How are you doing and where are you right now?

I am dog sitting for my parents in Waterloo.  Also cat sitting for the same parents.  I prefer the latter. Although the cat keeps trying to eat my tasty human food.

There are a lot of bands playing CMW, why should I watch yours?

Pick a Piper is double-drum fueled organic dance music with a psychedelic edge.
We also have points in the set where all four of us drum together at once.  For this show only, we are recruiting three additional drummers to play on a few songs.  If my math is correct, that means seven drummers at some points!  There's an equally crazy surprise at the end of the set that you'll have to come out to see!

What are you doing to prepare for CMW?

Making sure all these drummers know what the heck is going on.  Also I think a four-day pre-drink is in order.

What are you hoping to get out of the festival?

To have fun playing music and get people dancing their faces off.  Or at least do the Toronto "sway" as it's known.

Tell me a tour story that is crazy but true.

I was on tour with Caribou in Fargo, North Dakota (our first mistake).  Ordered what was called a "taco pizza" at the venue.  The finished product was a standard cheese pizza with a bag of nacho cheese Doritos poured on top.  Needless to the say, the gig wasn't much better.

What are you/your band working on at the moment?

We are about to head out on a Canadian east-coast tour the day after our CMW gig on the 10th.  Sad to be missing most of CMW, but excited to be going all the way to Newfoundland on this jaunt.

Any last parting words for us music-hungry Toronto folk?

Finish all the veggies on your plate, or no dessert!
