Toronto Band Ketch Harbour Wolves By: TJ Liebgott

Taking a break from recording their first full-length album to play CMW, Ketch Harbour Wolves create a unique blend of whimsical east coast folk music meets Toronto indie rock.  Guitarist Liam Brown tells us more about his band.

How are you doing and where are you right now?

Well - Thanks. We're scattered about Toronto and it's sprawling surrounds.

There are a lot of bands playing CMW, why should I watch yours?

We'll be performing songs from our upcoming full-length release!  The selection of music is always pretty fantastic at these festivals, so choosing is certainly difficult. I would recommend a tour de force of bands with animals in there names, as an effective way of narrowing the scope of patronage.  There's us, Ketch Harbour (Wolves), Paper (Lions), (Bird) & (Bear), (Bison) B.C., Blind (Mule), Cage the (Elephant), (Cardinal) Chase, (Cougarettes), (Dinosaur) Bones, (Elk), Hot (Panda), Old World (Vulture), (Ostrich) Tuning, (Otter) Petter, Papier (Tigre), Plants & (Animals), Steel (Panther), The (Sheepdogs) and (Whale) Tooth, in case you were wondering.

What are you doing to prepare for CMW?

Right now is a busy time for us.  We'll be recording and mixing right up to our CMW showcase.  There's been ample rehearsing and gigging as well, of course.

What are you hoping to get out of the festival?

I think approaching these festivals with that in mind doesn't actually yield the best results.  Our first festival we were really fevered, trying to do everything we could and expecting a lot.  We've found it works best if you just keep an open schedule, be in Toronto, and enjoy. The festival always comes through.

Tell me a tour story that is crazy but true.

Last year while recording out in Nova Scotia, we made a pilgrimmage to Ketch Harbour - a visit to the town of our namesake.  We had left some of our more necessary gear back in Toronto in order to bring our drummer Brian's surfboard.  Nothing was going to keep him from the waves.  While we were out there, as fate would have it, Hurricane Bill hit.  Halifax essentially shut down and everyone stayed indoors.  We woke up in the morning and Brian had already left for the beach.  Environment Canada had issued warnings about getting close to the water, nothing about going in it.

What are you/your band working on at the moment?

Our first full-length release, due out in May. We'll be posting material on www.ketchharbourwolves.ca  soon!

Any last parting words for us music-hungry Toronto folk?

Thanks for the Q/A.  We'll see you on your Tour de Animal!
