Toronto solo musician jsin brings his live band to CMW with a show at Revival. Combining heavy guitar riffs, electronica and even some world music influences, jsin tells us more of what to expect at this year’s showcase.
How are you doing and where are you right now?
In Toronto preparing for the gig Thursday night at Revival. Excited about the venue and about the opportunity to play during Canadian Music Week.
There are a lot of bands playing CMW, why should I watch yours?
Ideally, you'd be able to see every band. There are always a few diamonds in the rough. You should see mine because, despite a short set, you'll feel like you to got to 'feel' it all. We put on a show - the music is important, but so is the energy. You'll see me rock the fuck out, but then a few minutes later sing "You" - a beautiful slower tune with another up and coming talent, Prita Chhabra, all ending with a killer rendition of the classic GNR tune "Rocket Queen.” Can you ask for anything else?
What are you doing to prepare for CMW?
On the business front, I want to make sure materials are readily available for all the industry people that will be around. On the music end, some extra thought went into which musicians I want to play with, and then making sure the execution of the songs is second to none. I'm also watching old GNR/Radiohead concerts to really get into the mode!
What are you hoping to get out of the festival?
First and foremost, with all the acts, the industry people and hype around this festival, I'm looking to learn, to take it all in. There's always a whole load of things you can learn during a week like this. Hopefully I come out of this festival a better, more exposed musician.
Tell me a tour story that is crazy but true.
Nothing I am willing to share at this point :)
What are you/your band working on at the moment?
The focus is on premiering the video of the song "Inside" at the ReelWorld Film Festival in April. I'm also in the midst of planning a tour overseas (India).
Any last parting words for us music-hungry Toronto folk?
Yes - listen to the album Born. Vikas Kohli (Fatlabs) did an awesome job and I really think this album rocks. All nine songs are great and they are all completely different. It's a refreshing deviation from the radio rock out there today. It's up on iTunes (jsin "Born") and any info on the music, tour dates, random thoughts can be seen/heard/read on HYPERLINK "http://www.facebook.com/jsinisrockmusic"www.facebook.com/jsinisrockmusic.
