CMW Preview: Frankie Whyte and the Dead Idols Print E-mail
BFrankie Whyte and The Dead Idols y: Sheena Lyonnais

March 08, 2010

CMW 2008 is where Frankie Whyte and I fell in love.  There was a chemistry amongst their rock’n’roll attitudes, their unapologetic love of Motley Crue covers and the aggressively raw-yet-sweet shredding and singing that is Whyte herself that hooked me from the get go.  This is a band that is unforgiving onstage, so much so they spent last summer opening for KISS.  Whyte tells us why their magnetism hit KISS radar and why it will capture us.

How are you doing and where are you right now?

I'm stoked!  Just setting up for rehearsal in our space, waiting on the Dead Idols - those fuckkers!  How are you? (Sheena: I’m awesome, thanks for asking!)

There are a lot of bands playing CMW, why should I watch yours?

Frankie Whyte & The Dead Idols are an explosive misfit band from your hometown, Toronto, ON. We bring arena-sized attitude into a 100 fit club.  You know you're coming to see us, so lets pass on this question.

What are you doing to prepare for CMW?

Picking up our passes, trying to get to the Neutral on time ... don't forget guitars on the way out the door ...

What are you hoping to get out of the festival?

New friends and new music = the best combo!

Tell me a tour story that is crazy but true.

We spent last summer with KISS…I know, crazy, but true.

What are you/your band working on at the moment?

We've been back in the studio with our producer Duncan Coutts (Our Lady Peace) working on new songs that we're really excited about! Gonna throw down at CMW, and then we're off to play Austin, TX on March 18th! Dear 'the rest of Canada': we'll be coming your way this summer!

Any last parting words for us music-hungry Toronto folk?

So much music, so little time.  Go out and see as much as you can this CMW, there are so many great bands happening this year :) lets rock, Toronto! xx Fw.
