Coming off the release of their self-titled debut album, A Primitive Evolution plans on unleashing their version of sex-meets-horror-rock onto CMW. Taking a break from playing Mass Effect 2, vocalist/guitarist Brett Caruthers and bassist Steph Seki tell us more.
How are you doing and where are you right now?
Most excellent. We just ate a bunch of chocolate bars (washed down with some shepherd's pie) and are now embarking on a galactic conquest in the Terminus System AND doin’ an interview! Now THAT'S multitasking!!
There are a lot of bands playing CMW, why should I watch yours?
We'd like to think of our music and performance as an experience that's both sexual and thirst-quenching at the same time.
What are you doing to prepare for CMW?
Squat thrusts, gargling..and making some sweet-ass business cards.
What are you hoping to get out of the festival?
Nothing, we're double-bagging it this time! Seriously though, it would be nice to meet some new, like-minded people and maybe some agents to help us set up a tour.
Tell me a tour story that is crazy but true.
We haven't toured yet, but we do party a lot around the city and we're based in Parkdale so perhaps we're somewhat desensitized to "crazy." Just this past weekend, a woman who showed up (no one actually knew her in the end) took out her left breast and proceeded to lactate as a party trick. That was pretty...um...different. And hilarious. Especially since no one knew who she was, which makes one wonder if that's just something that she does...a lactating party crasher? Maybe she should try late night coffee houses. "Cream for you sir?"
What are you/your band working on at the moment?
We're currently working with a few good friends on making a music video for our songs “Beyond True” and “Death on Wheels” as well as a website and many other top-secret projects, which will bring to the masses joy and/or horror.
Any last parting words for us music-hungry Toronto folk?
If you see a werewolf you can always just stab it with silverware if you run outta silver bullets. Oh, and come see us rip it up at Bovine Sex Club on Wednesday March 10th (2AM), opening night for the festival and at The Hideout on Saturday March 13th (2AM), closing night for the festival!!
