Decade of Sleep Morning Sun CD Review By: TJ Liebgott
May 8, 2009

After a year and a half of jamming, gigging and solidifying their sound, Toronto’s The Decade of Sleep are finally ready to release their debut EP Morning Sun.  A collection of six straight-ahead rock songs, Morning Sun isn't the strongest debut, but shows a great degree of potential for The Decade of Sleep.

Songs like the opener "Pushing Daisy," "The Lull" and "Pressure" definitely stand out on Morning Sun with their pop sensibilities.  Lead singer Phil Laffin is perhaps the greatest asset as well as the greatest hindrance on the album.  While his voice is strong, full of passion and a wide range of emotion, he keeps treading into Chad Kroeger territory, which is a bit of a turn-off.  The rest of the band keeps up with Laffin's energy and provides some interesting riff's, especially from the shimmering guitars of Lance Schibler.

There definitely is a market for The Decade of Sleep's sound and their live shows are already beginning to turn industry heads.  Be sure to check them out May 27th as they play a showcase for talent bookers The Agency Group at The Supermarket.
