I was handed the Chasing Amee EP (err...a version of it on a burnt CD with the title written in Sharpie) outside the Lights show at the end of February.  I wasn’t sure what to expect considering it came with a small jungle-themed poster of the band shirtless with ladies and they were named after a Kevin Smith movie.

Low and behold, what did I get but four blissfully bubblegum pop punk tracks of youthful enthusiasm and cute catchy rhythms. Opener “Stuck (Stuck Stuck)” is so addictively sugary it’s like American Rejects meets New Found Glory, but with that Oshawa pop-punk feel (even though they hail from Cambridge).  These guys have mastered the formula for the style of music they play and they do so with a ton of energy and conviction.

Pop punk is a genre that refuses to die but continues to show no mercy.  It will be interesting to see where these guys go.  Their music doesn’t exactly scream of originality, but it really throws back to (and borrows from) the pop punk takeover of the early 2000s.  Some may call it outdated, but I call it a really fun EP from a band I’d definitely check out live despite the familiarity of the guitar riffs.
