Toronto band Playdeaf’s latest release The Super Sexy Market is definitely super sexy. With its sultry, biting lyrics and deep, dark rock, it’s an album you can strip to (if you’re into that sort of thing). It is definitely intense. Vocalist/guitarist Playdeaf Jeff has a voice that makes your body tingle and would make for the perfect soundtrack to a mellow, intimate night in. It’s easy to lose yourself while listening to the album’s raunchy, trippy sound. Each song invites you in with a deep, drawn out intro and then captivates the ears with quick guitar and sharp bass. It’s hard not to press repeat as it makes you feel so alive when listening.

The Darcys' self-titled release off Arts & Crafts marks a solid transition for the Toronto band - and 10 gorgeous tracks I can't take off repeat. From the enchanting, violin-laced opener "100 Mile House" straight through to the standout closer "When I Am New Again," the Darcy's have released an album that places them as forerunners of Canadian artistry, and an obvious pick for next year's Polaris Music Prize short-list.
CD Review: Monster Truck - The Brown EP

The band Monster Truck is really the city of Hamilton personified. They are dirty, sleazy, hard working and would probably stab you if you looked at them funny in a dark alley. This is the kind of music that makes women want to take their tops off and makes men want to start bar brawls. Playing 70’s inspired riff rock with nothing but attitude, The Brown EP is dripping in sludge, sweat and last night's bottle of Jack Daniels

Jenny Mayhem, previously of Toronto band ADA, shines in her solo self-titled debut. While ADA had some great songs, Jenny Mayhem's new laid back, acoustic folk sound really gives her the ability to showcase her smokey, sardonic voice.

After a four-year hiatus from the recording studio, Toronto's Recovery Child is back with their new EP Afterimage. Within the linear notes the band writes that the album took longer than expected due to the fact that they wanted to show how they've grown as a band.
